It’s like summer camp, but better.
Some highlights from the brochure: Each accommodation is a delightful surprise…think “mystery hotel” meets “bring your own pillow.” Expect meals to focus heavily on carbohydrates, with a flavor palette best described as... understated. Post-activity snacks? A gourmet selection of Coca-Cola and Haribo. Early wake-up calls are the norm, usually followed by long, scenic car rides where you'll question your life choices (in a good way). You’ll travel through five countries in five weeks, conquering a range of terrain, including two legendary mountain-top finishes that your legs will never forget.
I’ve had this time of year circled on the calendar for a while, and now, it’s finally here. The excitement is real.
Sure, as a spectator, I’m all about the Spring Classics. But as a racer? This is my time to have some fun.
So what makes this part of the season so exciting? One word: opportunity.
In cycling, so much has to go right on the day. But when you look at the calendar and see a bunch of race days ahead, it’s actually kind of freeing. More chances to show up, give it your all, and keep moving forward. In a way, it takes the pressure off.
And the cherry on top? These are some of my favorite roads to race on. Rolling terrain, solid elevation gain, and a great mix of one-day events and stage races.
The goal for this race block? Simple: enjoy it.
I know, I know…it sounds a little fluffy. But it’s something I honestly forget as soon as I pin on a number. And yet, it’s so key to racing smart and embracing the suffer.
Because yes, there will be moments (especially on those mountain-top finishes) when the legs start saying no thanks. But if you enjoy the suffer, they won’t let you down.
So where are we headed?
